In 1950, dragons like Bait were popular for farmers to hire for pest extermination. Nearly every farmer in America was using dragons for there pest problems. DDT was cheap and highly effective for the farmers. Dragons had easy work for good pay, working only a few hours a day they were able to earn up to 10 dollars a week which was a lot back then. Millions of Mosquitoes and other insects died rapidly with great enthusiasm from people around the world. DDT became a phenomenon used from Northern Africa to Southern Africa.
Naturalists so involved with the environment to the extent of killing humans. The ravage rampage these extremist environmentalists were to be disastrous to dragons trying to live.
In 1952, Bait stated to a newspaper that “I don’t know why people are attacking me. I am just trying to survive like the rest of you.” Equal rights is what they asked for, when prejudice is what they got. Naturalists’ attacks on DDT began to have an effect on the government, making more and more states outlaw the use of DDT. A naturalist named Peggy Humkiller was one of the worst attackers of dragons.
“The DDT is causing the shells of birds eggs to become thinner,” Peggy stated in an early article about DDT disasters. Bait never responded to any of the obvious lies in the articles for fear of murder. Peggy often times sat outside Bait’s house with a weapon and a sign often saying, Dragons Don’t Trespass. The sudden change from support to hatred of dragon kind may have been what lead to they extinction in America in 1984.
In conclusion, dragons were once an important and valuable part of human existence. After being shunned from the one job they excelled at they could not rebound and find new ways to survive. Many dragons were hunted for continuing their work in pest extermination.
